Therapy & Counseling for Adolescents
Finding help for your teenager can be a challenging task. It can be difficult to find a counselor who will work with adolescents. We have multiple therapists on staff with extensive experience working with this unique population. It is not uncommon for adolescents to be resistant to seeking counseling or be in denial of their problems, sometimes due to a negative perception of counseling. Getting your teenager to come to the initial visit may be your hardest challenge, but once a connection is made teenagers often ease their resistance and find the counseling extremely helpful. We are sensitive to this particular challenge and provide an inviting, accepting, sensitive, and confidential experience to help teenagers engage in the counseling process. Treatment may be solely individual with your teenager or in combination with parent or family counseling. Some typical teenage problems include:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Academic issues
- Issues with peers
- Self-esteem
- Opposition and defiance
- Social skills deficits
- Substance use and/or abuse
- and others.
We also work with adolescents who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Additionally, we conduct risk assessments for adolescents who are having thoughts of suicide and/or self-harm including when requested by school personnel and required in order to return to school.
We have both male and female therapists who specialize in working with adolescents. Some teenagers may be more amenable to getting help if they can choose the gender of the counselor they will be seeing. Teenagers often need to be reassured of confidentiality before agreeing to go to counseling and we are very sensitive to and understanding of that need.
Depending on your teenager’s specific needs, we will work either with him/her exclusively or in combination with the parents or family when indicated. Choosing the right approach can make all the difference in the outcome of therapy.

Therapy & Counseling for Children of All Ages
Some children do well with traditional talk therapy whereas others need the involvement of play and/or art therapy in order to be able to effectively communicate their concerns and feelings. Your child’s therapist will work with you to assess your child’s particular needs and best suited treatment approach. This may include play therapy in our dedicated play therapy room, specifically designed to work therapeutically with children of all ages. Therapy for children is best likely to be effective when the therapist works in conjunction and collaboratively with the parents or other caretakers. We believe that it is essential to be in close contact with parents or caretakers when working with children, especially when working with very young children.
There is a shortage of therapists who treat children. At A Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy Services, LLC you will find both male and female therapists who will provide your child with sensitive and caring treatment based on your child’s individual needs. Early intervention is often critical in addressing problems before they evolve into more serious problems during adolescence or adulthood. Preventive work may create a positive emotional and social foundation for your child’s future well-being.
